ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Faculty
All of our faculty are exceptional teachers, well prepared academically, and absolutely love working with children. Each teacher is committed to providing the best possible instruction for the students in his/her classroom. ECS teachers participate in extensive, on-going professional development through seminars and university classes, mentoring relationships, staff workshops and evaluations.

Class Size
ECS values each child as an individual created in the image of God. Our commitment to small class size allows us the opportunity to increase personalized attention to each child. Preschool class size is limited to 12 for Three-year olds and 15 for Four & Five-year old students. A Teacher's Aide is provided to all preschool classes once student enrollment reaches 10.  Kindergartens through middle school classes are generally limited to 20 students. Teacher's Aides are provided in all kindergarten through third grade classes.

Preschool
Our preschool program provides a safe and loving environment in which children learn about the love Jesus Christ has for them, explore God's great world and begin to develop language and numerical skills. Classes are available for three and four-year-olds and pre-kindergarten. Our Discovery Day program is also offered as an enrichment opportunity on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Kindergarten
The ECS kindergarten program uses full-day classes to nurture and encourage children to develop curiosity and confidence in learning. Along with social and emotional development, the kindergarten program continues the development of phonics skills to a reading level, numerical skills, artistic and musical ability, and knowledge of the Bible.

Elementary
The elementary program features a strong foundation in reading phonics, mathematics, language arts, history, geography, and science. Daily Bible time, weekly chapels, and character development program form a firm basis for spiritual development.  Additional teaching specialists also instruct students in art, music, computers, P.E. and Spanish. Field trips and hands-on experiences provide added opportunities for exploration and growth.

Middle School
Our middle school teaching staff specializes in integrating each subject with biblical principles aimed at the development of a Christian worldview. Core subject areas include English, math, science/health, history, and Bible. Other specific course offerings include drama, Spanish, P.E., band, computer, choir, and art. Students participate in weekly chapels and are encouraged to take an active role in community service projects. The middle school program is specifically designed to prepare students for high school level course work, including opportunities for achieving high school credit in Spanish and mathematics.

Technology
Our computer education program is designed to provide each student the skills necessary to use computers as educational tools.  ECS has a networked computer lab with screened internet access which enables instructors to help students develop skill in using a variety of software programs, create class projects and learn basic keyboarding.   Each individual classroom is also equipped with internet access and multi-media computers to enhance the students' daily academics.

Music
ECS provides instruction in both instrumental and choral music as well as music appreciation. Recorders are introduced at the fourth grade level. Fifth through eighth grade students have the opportunity to choose band as a class elective and sixth through eighth graders also have the option of choosing choir.  Evening performances, concerts, music festivals, and tours are used to reward and highlight the students' effort and enthusiasm.

Art
An art specialist provides instruction and develops art skills and appreciation appropriate to all 3rd through 5th grade students.  Art class is also offered to middle school students as an elective.  Throughout the program, students are encouraged to explore their creative potential using a variety of media and techniques.

Drama
In addition to classroom skits and plays, preschool and elementary students participate in annual Christmas programs which have become one of the highlights of the holiday season.  Elementary students also have the opportunity to take part in a Talent Show that occurs each spring.
For middle school students, a drama class is offered as an elective, as well as the opportunity for roles in the annual presentation of the Spring Play.

Foreign Language
Basic Spanish instruction is introduced in the third grade and continues through sixth grade to allow students to acquire a vocabulary foundation for success at the middle school level.  The program expands at the seventh and eighth grade to develop Spanish proficiency and provide the opportunity for high school credit.
